An Easy Guide to Taking a Simple Look from "Day", to “Night", to “Elevated Night”
Picture this … you plan on taking a day trip to a new city. You’re packing as minimally as possible, so you wear an outfit that you can easily dress up, just in case you find yourself in a fancy location. The most you’d need to bring is a pair of heels to change into, a coat, and maybe another pair of pants.
If you’re anything like me, the thought of not being prepared for something probably gives you a little anxiety, so with the three variations of this look, I guarantee the fits will have you prepared, no matter what.
The bodysuit + distressed jean combo is honestly my favorite. It’s just about that time of year where I can slide my feet into a pair of sandals too, so this is something you could catch me wearing on any given day. It’s effortlessly cute, simple, comfortable, and can easily transition into something more dressy. This ribbed bodysuit from Express makes it extremely easy to do that, and offsets the casual style of these jeans that I purchased from Ross. Y’all will see in just a few seconds how much of an impact your shoe choice makes on a look like this, but for the “day” variation, I’m just wearing a pair of slip on sandals from Amazon. A nice pair of flat sandals are an absolute wardrobe essential, so I’ve dropped the link for y’all to get a pair of these if you’re interested.
Remember that I am an Amazon Associate, so I do earn commission on qualifying purchases that are made through the paid link above.
Heels and a trench coat are literally all you need to take the “day” look to a “night” look. A 10 second change and you’re out the door.
I’m normally not one to brag, but when it comes to thrifting a coat that’s 100% cashmere, I must. I have a decent amount of coats, but I don’t feel like I’m lying when I say this one is my favorite. It’s the perfect shade of brown and looks great with my MK snake print purse, and that clearly ties in well with my heeled snake mules from Aldo. They’re fire before you even put them on, but once you do, you’ll be even more obsessed because they have the “pillow walk” insole. If you haven’t heard of it, pop on over to Aldo’s website - all of their heels have padding now!
Not every place is going to allow you to wear a pair of shredded jeans in their establishment. That’s why you need leather pants. This pair is from Express, but I’ve also bought a similar style from Ross and BOA. They’ll take the bodysuit + distressed jeans combo up several notches, then you’ll find yourself ready to take on any dress code that’s thrown your way.

Categorizing these looks by the time of day you can wear them doesn’t mean you can only wear them at that time of day. This is just how my brain differentiates them from one another, but please, by any and all means, wear heels and a trench coat during the day if that’s how you’re feeling.
What we’re not going to do is let a little sun stop our shine during the day.
