How to Style a Flannel - Fall/Winter '17 Lookbook Project
For a project in one of my fashion related courses, we were instructed to create a lookbook with five distinct looks centered around trends in an upcoming season. I styled my looks with trends that I predicted would be popular this coming Fall. Since I already did a post called "Flanneling", I figured why not put a little spin on my project and show even more ways to style that same flannel. I wish I could link the actual powerpoint presentation so you guys could get the full effect but I guess this will just have to suffice.
My project wasn't based on the flannel trend. It was more of the print; so the "plaid" trend. If anyone kept up with this past fashion week you had to have noticed how many of the collections featured a look with some plaid in it. With this look I layered the flannel with a denim shirt so that only hints of the plaid could be seen. Then I paired the tops with a black undershirt, black jeans, and cheetah print pumps to make the outfit a little less basic. Cheetah print may actually be making a comeback this coming Fall which is another reason I choose to wear these shoes in this look; I specially remember Michael Kors having a cheetah print dress in his F/W 2017 collection. But anyway, mixing prints will always have that "sprucing up" effect. Adding a pop of color will do the same thing, so that was kind of the purpose of having this cute, little purse.

With this look I wanted to incorporate the fur trend, which has been popular for some time now. But again, referencing fashion week, basically every collection had at least one look with fur. Some designers took it to the extreme by having the entire outfit be fur, including the shoes and accessories. Others had minimal amounts of fur, so maybe only around the collar or on the hems. It's kind of funny because when I did this little shoot it was probably almost 90 degrees outside and we were in this public park so everyone was looking at me like I was dumb.

For this look I wanted to do something a little different, which was to pair a plaid flannel with another plaid flannel. I don't know where this idea came from and I have no evidence of it ever becoming a "thing" but I actually really liked it. I feel like the bottom flannel being tied in the front made this outfit look really country and I wasn't completely satisfied with it. So I felt better about this double flannel situation. I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of these booties, but at the time of working on this project I'd brought most of my shoes home for the summer so my shoe selection at school was very limited, unfortuneately.
Top flannel: A parking lot (I tell that story in "Flanneling") | Jeans: H&M | Booties: Forever 21
This look could serve as a going out kind of outfit. The over-the-knee boots automatically make it sexy and the dolphin hem of the dress definitely accentuates the hips. Since this forecast was for the Fall, I tried to only use pieces of clothing that were warm-toned colors; so the shades of brown, olive green, black, and dark denim.

This look was probably my favorite out of all five that I did. I accessorized with a hat, one of my favorite bags, and a striped shirt which is my favorite print. The outfit is just super cute and girly and can be suitable for so many different occasions. The flannel wrapped around the waist makes the look a little more casual but then the studded flats adds the bang. They're surprisingly really uncomfortable so I've literally only worn them once outside of doing this shoot.
